Protections Against Autodialled Robocalls

Autodialled robocalls are some of the most annoying calls that we can receive nowadays. These calls can interrupt our everyday routine and are an overall nuisance. What qualifies a call as a robocall and what can you do to protect yourself?

A robocall typically runs through an autodialer system, and contacts as many people per minute it can with a pre-recorded message. You may recognize these calls for their distinct pause at the beginning. In some cases, the audio won’t play until it confirms there is someone on the other line. Calls made using an autodialer are illegal under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

There can be times where you are met by a live person on the other end of the phone, and you may think to yourself that it isn’t a robocall, BUT if the person used an autodialer to call you, then it is considered a robocall. Calls like these can be just as annoying as prerecorded calls.

Protection Against Robocalls

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act aims to protect consumers from these annoying and illegal robocalls. Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, most businesses cannot contact you on your cell phone with telemarketing messages that are pre recorded.

Have you been harassed by these robocalls? If so, you can always contact an experienced TCPA attorney, who can help you receive compensation for each of the illegal calls that you have received. A TCPA violation can earn victims between $500-$1500 per violation. The breakdown of compensation available is as follows:

  • $500 for each call that violates the TCPA.
  • $500 for each call that violated the Do Not Call Registry.
  • $1,500 for each call that you can prove willfully violated the TCPA.
